This short course will cover the general characteristics of orogenic gold systems including orogenic setting, structural controls, hydrothermal alteration, mineralisation styles and genetic models. The course will describe on classic orogenic gold terranes and orogenic gold systems in the Nordics. The course will include a hand sample work shop with altered and mineralised samples from a number of different terranes.
The presenters have many decades of experience investigating orogenic gold deposits worldwide including in Australia, Canada, Finland, Greenland, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden and Zimbabwe. The presenters research has been fundamental to current genetic models for these deposits. The short course is sponsored by the SGA.
